3 life-lessons the 2017 Apple event taught me.
The 2017 Apple event was by far the biggest of its kind. The products that were showcased, the keynote speakers and the magnitude of the event are clear indicators of its sheer brilliance. Being a technology enthusiast with an interest in self development, I was able to salvage some life-lessons from the proceedings of the 2017 Apple event —
- Build a personal brand.
The kind of visibility that Apple products get, can be majorly attributed to the brand that Apple is perceived to be. Isn’t this valid in life too? The kind of exposure our work gets is attributed majorly to our personal brand. A personal brand isn’t something that I can point a finger at. It can be anything, from your blog to a company that you own.
If we want to take our work to the next level, we need to work constantly towards building a personal brand.
- Have a trump card.
The ‘trump card’ of iPhone X made this year’s Apple event, exciting, exhilarating and entertaining. The same holds true for life, too. If you want the world to take notice of you, you need to separate yourself from the rest of the world. The best way to do this is to have a ‘trump card’, a unique skill that only a few people excel at.
If we want the world to take notice of us, we need to establish uniqueness through our trump cards.
- Focus on plan A, but have a plan B.
Every aspect of life has a finite probability of failure. When this failure comes knocking at our front door, we need to be ready with a back up plan. During the Apple event of 2017 the demonstration of iPhone X’s facial detection failed. Instead of figuring out a solution at that moment, Tim Cook reached out to a spare iPhone X and demonstrated that feature.
If we want to reduce our turn around time, we need to be ready with a plan B.
The life-lessons that the 2017 Apple launch taught me, will remain fresh in my mind for many years to come. The goal of this post is not for you to resonate with the same life-lessons, but to encourage you to learn from seemingly unrelated domains of life!
